  There's always something crazy going on with bacon. For a long time, bacon was demonized for being high fat, with experts suggesting that it would cause a ton of issues.

  但善变的小伙伴在某一瞬间突然改变了想法,培根就摇身一变,成为了新潮流,并出现在许多常见菜品中。越来越多的食谱中出现了关于培根的新吃法。

  Then people changed their minds and bacon became a huge fad, becoming extremely common in so many dishes. More and more recipes came out with new and delicious ways to use bacon.

  每个人都享受着愉快的生活,然而又在某一天!世界卫生组织称加工过的肉类对健康存在潜在危害。什么?我到底还能不能愉快地一次吃15袋培根了?或者我再也不吃培根了?

  Everybody was living their merry life until the World Health Organization stated that processed meats could be potentially harmful to us. Well, what is it? Can I eat 15 packs of bacon in one sitting or should I not eat it at all?

  但是,你很幸运(当然我也很幸运)。研究表明,培根和其他含有胆固醇的食物都是对人体无害的。

  Well, luckily for you (and most definitely me), there has been a study published showing that bacon, and really anything with cholesterol, isn't actually bad for you.

  

  这项研究回顾了超过7万人的健康报告数据,发现低密度脂蛋白(有害胆固醇)和心血管疾病没有直接关系。

  The study reviewed research involving over 70,000 individuals and found that there was no negative link between LDL (bad cholesterol) and cardiovascular disease (CVD).

  That's not all they found, either. Their findings were so different than what general recommendations are that the authors of the review asked for cardiovascular guidelines to be revisited.

  

  不管你信不信,研究人员发现,不但胆固醇不能增加心血管疾病的患病概率,而且92%的高胆固醇患者更长寿。

  Believe it or not, they actually found that not only did cholesterol not increase the risk of CVD, but that 92% of people with high cholesterol lived longer.

  

  除此之外,高胆固醇患者患上心脏疾病的概率更小。这与我们的认知完全相反!因为通常来说胆固醇是由不好的生活习惯造成的(抽烟,不健康食品等)。

  To top it off, the people with high cholesterol actually had lower rates of heart disease. That's the complete opposite of what we've always been told! With that said, cholesterol usually comes from things that might not be the best for us (smoking, unhealthy foods, etc).

  

  所以,这是不是意味着我可以想吃多少培根就吃多少培根??不是这样的。即使培根中的胆固醇没有问题,但是培根的卡路里含量极高(一条培根大概含有117小卡),所以即使培根本是无害,但是过量饮食培根也会导致健康问题,毕竟凡是都应该适可而止嘛。不过你大可放心,适当吃几条培根还是可以的。

  So, does that mean I can eat all the bacon I want?No, not really. While the cholesterol in bacon may not be a problem, it's still extremely high in calories (approximately 117 calories per strip). You can rest easy knowing that a few slices are perfectly okay.
