　　昨天上午，世界顶级科学家史蒂芬霍金发了一条新浪微博，大意是给940万高考考生送上自己的祝福。霍金总共只发送了9条微博，但他真的凭借这条微博赚足了人气，当了一回“网红”。因为截至目前，这条微博已经得到41万个赞、5万条评论和17万次的转发量。

　　看来国际上对高考的关注度也提高了不少，连霍金都来凑热闹发微博了；但是做为中国的学生，大家真的能把高考介绍清楚吗？今天，留学监理网的老师就来教大家如何把高考说清楚。

　　Facts about Gaokao:

　　Most Chinese students attend university through sitting Gaokao which is also called the National College Entrance Examination.

　　This year, Gaokao is held from 7th to 8th of July. There are 9.4 million applicants attending Gaokao in China. Around 3/4 of them will be enrolled.

　　Subjects of Gaokao:

　　There are many subjects in Gaokao. For every student they need to take Chinese, Maths and Foreign Language exams. For Science students, they also have Biology, Physics and Chemistry. And for Liberal Arts students, they take Politics, History and Geography exams. Both Science and Liberal Arts students take Maths exam but there are 2 variations of Maths exam--the one that Science students take is more difficult than Liberal Arts students’. Foreign Language is very important for the students and there are many languages they can choose: English, Russian, Japanese, German etc. Of course, most of them choose English!

　　History, Presence and Future of Gaokao:

　　Gaokao began in 1952, three years after the People’s Republic of China was established. After being suspended during the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976), it was restored in 1977.

　　Gaokao, for most students and their parents, is one of the most important events which is regarded as a turning point that will affect their personal development or even define their social identity. Pressure is on but everyone fully devotes themselves to it.

　　In order to make Gaokao eventually become a fair exam, there has been many changes and improvements in the past few years. In the future, there would be changes. One of the reasons is that there are so many students with high scores but couldn’t solve real problems. Knowledge should be generated into skills. As a consequence, the government is doing its best to make Gaokao a skill-oriented exam rather than score-oriented. But there is a long way to go and we are all looking forward to seeing a better-constructed Gaokao.
